*A fleet of six identical trawlers. All trawlers in the fleet are availiable for sale. Electronics vary between boats as they are constantly unpgraded. Electronics are inter-changable to meet a buyer's needs.
The fleet has been towing 2 x 8 fathom semi flyer prawn nets using 14mm warp wire and 35 fathom bridles and a try net. After towing conventional 2440mm x 910mm wooden trawl boards for many years it has recently been towing No.5 Bison doors.
The fleet has generally worked during the night for a period of about 12 hours. During this working period its consumption of fuel is approx. 1000 litres, including the running of the auxiliary. The average depth of water it fishes in is around 20 metres and the trawl seed is 3-4 knots depending of course on tide and weather conditions.
Each trawler can spend up to 15 days at sea depending on the catch. During peak catching times it operates with 5 crew and the skipper. The freezer holds up to 10 000 kg packed in 12 kg cartons and stores the product at about -25 degrees C.
On occasions trawlers have processed up to 1500kg of prawns per night but they are more comfortable anywhere between 800 - 1000kg per night. The season runs from March to October each year, with periods off each month for the full moons. During the off seasons the fleet is slipped and refined in preparation for the following season. The fleet is maintained to a high standard, as it only fishes for eight months of the year and the owner cannot afford any down time resulting from breakdowns. [more]
